Overview

The  Laboratory of Radiation Physics, Materials Technology and Biomedical Imaging (ex. laboratory of ionizing and non ionizing radiation imaging systems, LIR) provides education and develops research activities as follows:

A. Education: LIR pprovides under graduate and postgraduate education covering a wide range of scientific and technical areas within the framework of Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy Technology and Physics, including the following fields:

1. Conventional and DigitalRadiography (DR-CR) and Fluoroscopy systems,

2. Computed Tomography (CT),

3. Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI),

4. Diagnostic Ultrasound and color flow imaging,

5. Single Photon Emission Computed Tomography (SPECT),

6. Positron Emission Tomography (PET)

7. In Vivo and In Vitro Nuclear Medicine systems

8. Radiation Therapy systems (Linear Accelerators-linacs with simulators and portal imaging units)

9. Brachytherapy, etc.

B. Research: Research covering a wide range of contemporary applications of Radiation Technology and Physics in Medical Imaging is developed in the following areas:

1. Granular Phosphors and Single-Crystal Scintillators evaluation for Medical Imaging applications (Diagnostic Radiology, Nuclear Medicine, Portal Imaging)

2.  Analytical modeling and Monte Carlo simulations as applied to Medical Imaging (Diagnostic Radiology, Nuclear Medicine, Portal Imaging)

3. Experimental evaluation of Digital Radiography and Mammography systems

4. Experimental evaluation of Portal Imaging systems

5. Nuclear Imaging detector development

6. Magnetic Resonance Imaging and Spectroscopy

7. Ultrasonic Imaging
